One 60-day journey circling the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an older lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a break. The liner left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation discovered her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".
