The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
