Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
