Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
